Frequently Asked Questions - What to ask your Wedding Florist

I've been doing Joanne Hawkers 'Meet the Maker' over on Instagram this March and I thought I'd keep that theme going with this months blog post.

If you haven't seen Meet the Maker, head over to our Instagram account and check it out!

I've shared a series of posts every day including some behind the scenes in the studio and recommendations of other creative friends, it's been good fun so far!

It got me thinking, you guys ask me lots of questions about your wedding flowers and quite rightly so! So I thought I'd answer some that I'm regularly asked:

How much will my wedding flowers cost?

A ha! Let's start with the biggie and most commonly asked. Well, it really does depend on what you're after. All flowers come in at different stem prices and cost varies on materials needed, same with time.

I have guide package prices on my website to give you a rough idea of what to expect, as a minimum.

If you have a budget in mind - please let me know! I can then provide you with a realistic quote.

How do you do everything in your business on your own?

I'm going to be honest with this one, it's not easy! My business is going into its third year now and is thriving (yay!) I'm busier and busier which also means my time is stretched more than ever. I've come to the point where I've reached the capacity of what I can achieve riding solo. My options of course are to cap the workload at this or expand, expand, expand.

Of course, I'm going for the latter!

I have some fabulous freelance, highly experienced Florists who will be working with me this year and am looking into recruiting an experienced part time Florist. This will free up so much time for me to answer you guys more promptly, think of top bants for social media etc and be home before midnight more often than not. Stay tuned to meet my new team!

Where are you based and do you travel?

I'm based in Dumbarton, a stones throw from Loch Lomond in Scotland and yes, I travel, a thousand times yes! I always worry that saying where I'm 'based' sounds like I just cover that area when that couldn't be further from the truth.

I am happy to travel to weddings and events all over Scotland and further on request.

I'm designing the wedding flowers for a fab wedding in Stranraer in a few months time and even have an overnight to look forward to for a destination wedding (which is what I would call a wedding more than 5 hours round trip travel) where the Bride and Groom are looking to have me on hand all day to re arrange the Floral decor as the day progresses! How exciting!

Is there a delivery fee?

There is, yes. I didn't always have one but quickly learned that fuel and/or van hire for all of said travelling is sadly, not free. I charge a standard HMRC approved rate for mileage so nothing unexpected at all.

Do you just do bouquets? What about Centrepieces?

I do IT ALL! Bridal party flowers inc Buttonholes, Centrepieces (including lots of vases, candelabras etc available for hire) and allll the Floral venue decor you can imagine for your wonderful wedding;

Staircase Florals? Check

Archway? Check

Fireplace Garlands? Check

Bay trees to line the entrance/aisle? Check

Oh and lanterns to line the aisle... you guessed it! This is not exhaustive by any means, just let me know what you have in mind and we can take it from there!

Do you have any burning questions you'd like to ask? If so, I'd love to hear from you! Just drop me an email:
